Self-cleaning insert windows

Over time, a standard insert window will always tend to become dirty and lose its transparency. Beyond the dirty appearance, these grease and soot deposits will hide your view of the flames.

Self-cleaning insert windows ( windows with Neroceram glass for example) are treated to avoid these inconveniences. They allow you to enjoy the view of fire for a longer period of time, without the need for regular cleaning.

How a self-cleaning window works

On a self-cleaning window, one side is covered with a pyrolysis coating. The latter must always be placed on the exterior side of the heater, and must never come into contact with the flames.

On this pyrolysis side, a thin and invisible layer of metal oxides covers your window. The radiation produced by your combustion will be reflected on this side and increase the temperature of the window. Under the effect of pyrolysis, dirty particles no longer adhere to the window, keeping it clean and clear.

To maximize the self-cleaning effect of your insert window and not alter pyrolysis, it is important to have:

• optimal fire draft (neither insufficient nor excessive)

• good quality wood (dry wood with a humidity level of less than 20%)

Maintaining a self-cleaning window

A self-cleaning insert window still requires a minimum of maintenance. You can read our complete guide on the maintenance and cleaning of your Néocéram window .

For the exterior side, be careful not to scratch it with abrasive products. Opt for a gentle cleansing based on water mixed with a little black soap.

For the interior, favor healthy and ecological cleaning. With a damp cloth soaked in ashes from your fireplace, rub your window. The ash will have an abrasive effect on the soot which is deposited on your glass insert.

Standard or self-cleaning window

While a standard insert window will require regular cleaning, self-cleaning glass allows you easy and less frequent maintenance.

A self-cleaning window is also more expensive to purchase, and will require a certain quality in your combustion.
